I have a passion for all things herbal & natural, which I share freely. I will never hand you a remedy and say you should take it simply because it works. Instead, I’ll provide you with information about each herb, essential oil, or food that goes into a remedy so that you can understand how/why it works, and then decide if it’s right for you.
Ultimately, you’ll be better informed for future ailments, and better equipped to incorporate natural remedies into your everyday life.
I’m also acutely aware that good health is multifaceted, and there is no ‘one size fits all’ solution. My job is to help you figure out what’s going to work best for you based on current prescriptions, health concerns, goals, etc. That may mean breathing exercises to reduce anxiety, a tincture to help regulate hormones, or carrying aromatherapy inhalers that can help with everything from irritability to headaches. Small changes really can make big differences!
Who is your niche? Who do you serve?
In general, people who are curious about herbal remedies, and people who have tried everything else with little to no success.
What I love is that a number of people who have little experience with ‘alternative’ and herbal remedies use me as a resource. Some come to buy fire cider every month, others to pick up bumps and bruises salve. Invariably we end up talking about other ailments, issues, remedies, resources…this is the part I love most about my practice; sharing knowledge.
What is the mission of your company?
To provide education and support to people in the community so that they can take control of their own wellbeing through nutrition, herbs, and lifestyle.
Can you share a little about your journey with us.
I began my career in child and family services, working with children in custody of the juvenile court system, and later in foster care. I went on to work primarily with youth empowerment programs, and served as a Youth Development volunteer with Peace Corps in Paraguay and a School Social Worker in The Republic of Georgia. During my two and a half years in Paraguay, learning from the indigenous Guarani people, is when my interest in herbal and natural healing grew into a way of life.
Having discovered a love of teaching during that first Peace Corps assignment, I returned to the US and pursued certification to teach English to non-native speakers. I spent the next several years teaching English at the University level, and delving deeper into herbal remedies and folklore, aromatherapy, nutrition, and healthy movement. I tried different diets, new exercises, and experimented with a myriad of herbal remedies and supplements…not always with great success, but always learning.
After years of informal education, herbal conferences, and workshops, I completed an online (41 credit hour) certification program encompassing anatomy, nutrition, herbal properties, diseases, natural alternatives to allopathic medicine, and herb-drug interactions. After receiving a diploma of Holistic Health Practitioner, Simply Healthy was born.
It began as a consulting focused endeavor, and has grown to include providing herbal remedies and natural alternatives to everyday items such as pain salves and antibiotic ointments, teaching others how to make natural products for themselves, group fitness outings, and small group informational sessions. Through community outreach and education, I hope to help others understand how ‘alternative’ remedies can be a useful part of everyday life.
Can you please share with something unique to you. For example, what do you enjoy outside of work?
While I love the beach and the ocean…paddle boarding, swimming, etc., my passion is pole & aerial fitness. There is something about the aerial arts that is unlike any other form of exercise. Not only is it super challenging, it also takes me back to the playground, flipping around on the monkey bars and climbing everything in sight. I’ve never had so much fun working out! I teach a beginner level pole dance class on Saturdays at Aura Aerial & Yoga in Atlantic Beach for anyone interested in checking it out ☺
What tips might you have for someone looking for the service you provide? (how can they identify with what you offer?)
I feel like people need to be open, curious, and honest about what they’re looking for. You may not want to make big changes, and that’s OK. Perhaps you start by incorporating one or two herbal remedies into your life, or try a new stress relief technique. Maybe you just want to learn a bit more about herbs and herbal remedies. Wherever you are, that’s where we’ll start.
